What is Skinny Fiber and How Does it Work?
Skinny Fiber is a dietary supplement that is promoted as the “ultimate weight loss product for men and women” and contains a proprietary blend of ingredients designed to support weight management goals, as well as “optimal functioning throughout the body” (whatever that’s supposed to mean!).
It contains dietary soluble fiber, Glucomannan, as well as the Brazilian herb, Cha de Bugre (which is said to eliminate harmful toxins from the body). Skinny Body Care states that its product helps the body to release excess fluids and even generate an overall feeling of well-being through increased energy and stamina. Other ingredients contained in the product are said to help users lose weight by preventing cravings and increasing metabolism so that calories are burned more efficiently.
The company claims that the product is not just a weight loss or fiber snack, but that it’s a “health product” with all natural ingredients known to assist with weight loss management. They suggest taking two pills with one 8-ounce glass of water, 30 minutes before a meal.
Skinny Fiber Reviews Written by Company Distributors
As with many other weight loss products, including Plexus Slim which we reviewed recently, searching for Skinny Fiber reviews reveals numerous glowing accounts of people who absolutely love it and who claim to have lost significant amounts of weight. Some have headlines like, “Skinny Fiber Exposed!” that entice you into reading further, only to find the “review” was written by one of the company’s distributors hocking the product.
Skinny Fiber, as mentioned, is sold through multi-level marketing (MLM) which can work well for both consumers and sellers, as long as the product is reputable and there are strict controls put into place by the company. Many distributors claim that the product is “stimulant-free,” and while it’s true that it doesn’t contain artificial stimulants, one of its main ingredients, Cha de Bugre, is known as a powerful stimulant (& contains caffeine).

Red Flags to Watch Out For
Some say it’s perfect for people who want to “lose weight effortlessly” – an obvious red flag – while others offer conflicting advice. One website claims that it could be good for people suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, and at the same time indicates that taking products containing Cha de Bugre could be dangerous for diabetics.
Sellers often use Dr. Oz as a resource to back up claims; however, the only ingredient he has approved of is Glucomannan. Many also make extremely unrealistic claims, stating that it can cure virtually everything – and that as it’s an “all-natural” product, there are no concerns about interactions with medications.
This type of misinformation provided by unqualified distributors could obviously have some very harmful consequences. Rather than trusting someone who is out to make a buck and not necessarily concerned with your good health, it’s important to take a close look at the ingredients, as well as the pros and cons of Skinny Fiber, before making a decision.
Pros and Cons of Skinny Fiber
Skinny Fiber contains Glucomannon powder, which is known to help keep you feeling satisfied longer and possibly help prevent between-meal snacking. This is a natural soluble dietary fiber which may help you to eat less, and certainly isn’t harmful.
Skinny Body Care claims on its website that Glucomannon is a “true wonder ingredient.” While it was found to improve cholesterol levels in two small studies, the jury is still out on its weight loss effects. A few small double-blind studies suggested that it may be helpful, but in others no benefit was seen.
The company says that Skinny Fiber is the only product of its kind “PACKED with nutrient-rich enzymes” that can help your body “get into a position to lose weight.” But there are no scientific studies, or really any information, to back this statement up – and the company does not reveal what type of enzymes are in the product. At the same time, they aren’t linked to anything harmful, so we’ll consider them as a “pro” for review purposes.
The product also contains Caralluma Fimbriata, which the company states is an effective appetite suppressant that’s been used for centuries in India. While it may decrease feelings of hunger, there is insufficient evidence for weight loss at this time. One study found that the extract did offer some results; however, this was in a higher dosage than what you would get from taking this product.
Concerns over some ingredients
Just one particular concern, as mentioned previously, is the ingredient Cha de Bugre.
This is the ingredient linked to a number of serious side effects including rapid heartbeat, breathing difficulties, chest pain as well as insomnia, irritability, depression, anxiety, digestive troubles and blurred vision, that have been reported by those who have consumed it. It may also cause interactions with other medications.
The company states that this one of the “key ingredients” in Skinny Fiber, and that it is commonly found in beachfront restaurants in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, but there have been no studies conducted on its safety, or efficiency for weight loss.
Company Rating and Reliability
Another issue related to this product is the company itself. On its website, the company is described as a “team of top formulators in the industry with the most successful team of entrepreneurial minds in the business world,” yet there are virtually no details beyond this. It accompanies what appears to be a stock photo of some guys in hard hats in front of a manufacturing plant, but the company address belongs to a strip mall business. There is no customer service phone number, and the contact page lists an in care/of address in St. Louis, Missouri.
Furthermore, the company has a rating of “F” according to their current Better Business Bureau file, with the majority of complaints related to product and service.
The Bottom Line
Skinny Fiber could help some people lose weight, with its most effective ingredient likely to be its Glucomannon; however, you could buy Glucomannon powder on its own for a fraction of the cost without worry about the harmful side effects of Cha de Bugre.
Remember that researching any products that claim to promote weight loss is essential – not only to prevent you from throwing your money away, but to protect your good health too. Reading Skinny Fiber reviews such as this – and as many others as you can that were not written by someone selling the product – can help you make the best decision for your health and your waistline.
